The Perth Mint released the new High Relief silver coin, The 2017 1oz Silver Dragon and Phoenix Silver Coin. This coin issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 with a monetary denomination of $1. In Chinese mythology, the Dragon and Phoenix are regarded as the most sacred animals and were used as emblems of emperors and empress. The Chinese Dragon is traditionally the embodiment of the concept of yang (male) while the Phoenix is yin (female). The dragon is admired as a symbol of power, strength, wealth and good fortune, and it is often represented in pursuit of a chasing a luminous or flaming pearl. The flaming pearl is viewed as a metaphor for wisdom, enlightenment and spiritual essence.
This 2017 High Relief 2017-P $1 Australian 1 oz. Proof Silver Dragon & Phoenix struck from .9999 fine silver, this coin bears the prized “P” Mint mark on the reverse. The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s right-side effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch wears a tiara and earrings. The inscriptions included along the rim are, “ELIZABETH II,” the issuing country, “AUSTRALIA,” the date, “2017,” the face value, “1 DOLLAR,” and the coin’s weight and purity, “1 OZ 9999 AG.” On the reverse design centered on a flaming pearl, which symbolizes enlightenment, wisdom and spiritual essence in Chinese culture. To the left of the pearl is a phoenix, a symbol of rebirth and to its right is a dragon, which stands for power, wealth, good luck and strength.
The coin is limited mintage of 5,000 coins worldwide and presented in a prestigious timber display case, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
