The Royal Mint Released a new 50 Pence coin honoring Stephen Hawking’s legacy 2 days before his first death anniversary. The new commemorative coin featuring a “black Hole” one of his favorite subjects. The coin inscribed with Hawking’s name and one of Hawking’s most famous creations – a drawing of concentric circles representing a black hole. Stephen William Hawking (CH CBE FRS FRSA) was born on January 8, 1942, Oxford England and died at the age of 76 on March 14, 2018 at his home in Cambridge, England.
The coin designed by Edwina Ellis, and it also features Bekenstein–Hawking equation (S = kc^3 A / 4ℏG.) one of Hawking’s signature theorems. (In this equation, S is entropy, k is the Boltzmann constant, A is the surface area of the black hole, c is the speed of light, ℏ is Planck’s constant and G is Newton’s gravitational constant). This formula developed by Hawking and Jacob Bekenstein, this equation describes black-hole entropy, and shows that the surface area of a black hole expands as it consumes more matter.
The obverse of the coin includes Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark’s fifth effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II, which was using in the commemorative coins since 2015. The other scientists appeared in UK coins are Charles Darwin in 2009 and Sir Isaac Newton in 2017. The coin ‘s limited mintage detail below;
