The 2017 American Eagle Gold Coin is released for public on June 1. This coin is the 10th issue in the 1-ounce gold coin series which debuted in 2006 and a collector version of the US Mint’s American Eagle Gold Coin program. The 2017 American Eagle One Ounce Gold Proof Coin features a breathtaking design of Liberty and minted in 22–karat gold at the United States Mint at West Point. The obverse features a version of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Its reverse designed by sculptor Miley Busiek, showing a family of eagles and Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, the composition of 1 OZ. FINE GOLD and the face value of 50 DOLLARS.
Each coin is encapsulated in plastic and packaged in a presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity. The Uncirculated coins have been issued annually since, except 2009, when the 1-ounce planchets were reserved strictly for production of bullion coins, without Mint marks. No Proof American Eagle 1-ounce gold or silver coins were issued in 2009 either. The 2017-W edition is the 10th issued since 2006 when the U.S. Mint introduced the Uncirculated finish with W Mint mark for the American Eagle 1-ounce .9167 fine gold coin.
