US Mint 2018 – Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin

The United States Mint will open sales for the 2018 Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin on January 25, 2018. This coin is the first release in the three-year (2018-2020) Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin Series. The design of the first coin, the 2018 coin is emblematic of “Life”, 2019 will be emblematic of “Liberty” and 2020 will be the “Pursuit of Happiness”. The U.S. Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. It signified the intent of the American colonies to govern themselves independently from Great Britain. The series features one ounce, 99.95 percent platinum proof coin with all new obverse and a new common reverse design.

The obverse designed by Justin Kunz, which features “Life” personified by Lady Liberty holding a small barefoot child in a tunic on her right hip. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “2018,” and “LIFE.” The coins’ common reverse for this series designed by designer Patricia Lucas-Morris which depicts an eagle in flight with an olive branch in its talons and her initials “PLM” is found near the tip of the olive branch. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ.,” “.9995 PLATINUM,” and “$100.” The mint mark “W”, indicating that the coin was struck at the West Point branch mint.

The 2018 platinum proof coin mintage is limited to 20,000 while orders are initially limited to one coin per household. This coin is packaged in a black velvet satin-lined presentation case with outer box and sleeve and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
